Overview of Gantt chart

Gantt views are one of four views in Smartsheet that give you a quick glance at your work timeline.Gantt charts are a must for waterfall project managementHowever, it can also be used to make the relationship between schedules and tasks visually easier to understand.

To use Gantt view, the sheet must have at least a start date and an end date. Need two date columns.

Tip: The Gantt chart is displayed even if the names of the two date columns are not necessarily "start date" and "end date".However, you need to specify in your project settings which columns to base on.In short, if you use the name of the "Start Date" and "End Date" columns, it will be automatically specified at the beginning and end of the Gantt chart.(For example, in the card view experienceEquipment management tableIf you set to Gantt view, you can confirm that it is based on "Purchase date" and "Today". )

See Gantt View Preferences.

Waterflow project management

The waterfall method was originally used in industries such as manufacturing and construction. These industries are characterized by the fact that the project phases must be carried out in sequence. For example, in the case of home construction, you cannot paint the walls before you build the framework of the house.Similarly, just as you can't re-inject a concrete foundation, you can't redo the tasks you had to do before.

Below,Dashboard experienceI will explain how to use the Gantt chart based on the sheet of a typical water flow type project in the example of multiple construction projects in.

If the sheet has dependencies enabled, each parent row displays a summary of the child rows. The value in the parent row cannot be edited because it is automatically calculated in the Period, Start Date, End Date, and% Complete columns. If the dependency is not enabled, you can edit the parent row information as needed.
