6. Conversation (comment)

Conversational capabilities allow you and your team to manage and track important communications in real time and reflect them directly in your work situation. Conversations can be recorded at the row level, sheet level, or workspace level in Smartsheet.

Corresponds to sheet comments

The Conversation panel shows all comments for sheets, rows, and cards.To see the conversation, on the right panel [conversation] Click the icon.

Comments are displayed in the conversation panel in chronological order based on the date they were created.As a result, newer comments appear at the bottom of the Conversation panel.

Here are some tips for taking advantage of the comments displayed.

  • At the top of the panel [all] or sending us a message on [Sheet] Click to see various comments. [Sheet] Click to see only the comments applied to the entire sheet.
  • To go to a line with a line-level comment, click the line number displayed next to the user name you commented on.
  • Each comment contains a relative time stamp (2 minutes ago) based on the time displayed.To see the exact time the comment was posted (2021:4 pm, April 6, 3), hover over the relative timestamp.

Create a new comment for a row (grid view) or card (card view)

To create a comment for a particular row, in the "Comments" column of the row [Add comment] Click.

Note: To add a line break to a comment, Shift + Enter Press the key (Shift + Return on Mac).

Create a new comment that applies to the entire sheet

You can use the sheet's comment feature to have a conversation with the entire sheet rather than with a specific row.

1. On the right panel [conversation] Click the icon to open the Conversation panel.
2. At the bottom of the panel[Add comment] Enter a comment in the box.
3. [Post a comment] Click (or press Enter or Return).

Lines with new comments are marked with a red dot.When you open the conversation panel, you'll see a comment for that line and the notification will be cleared.

Here you can manage new conversations,UnreadThe tab groups all new comments line by line. The envelope is openYou can mark a comment as read and remove the comment indicator from the row by selecting the picture button.

Reply to existing comments

[reply] Click and enter your reply [Post a comment] Click the icon (or press Enter or Return).

You will be notified automatically when someone replies to your comment.Each time a new user joins the thread, that user will also be notified when a reply is added.

When a user is mentioned in a comment, the user automatically joins the threadWill be done.You will be notified of replies to conversations even if you haven't joined yet.You can also follow the thread by selecting Follow from the menu.

Edit, print, delete, or email comments or threads

Select the command to email, print, edit, or delete the comment or comment thread (Note: you must have the appropriate permissions to edit or delete the comment).

Use attachments / links to supplement the content of your comments

You can use attachments / links to supplement the content of your comments.To attachAdd commentUnder the box [Attachment / link] Click the icon.

To remove attachments from comments:

  1. For comments that include attachments / links, click the menu icon to the right of the comment and select Edit Comment.
  2. Mouse over the attachment / link and click Delete to delete the file.
  3. Click Save to save your changes.

Tag users to comments with the @ mark

Enter @ to tag users to comments.Tagged users will be notified with a link to the comment so they can quickly review and reply.

Please note the following points when using the @mention function.

  • Recipients tagged with commentsIt is,Reply with SmartsheetOr,Reply directly by emailYou can reply in two ways:
  • If the recipient's permissions are viewer permissions, there is no option to add comments.Instead, you will receive an invitation to view the sheet.
  • If you are the owner or administrator of the sheet, or if you share the sheet with editor (shareable) privileges and you want to notify users who are not sharing the sheet using the @mention feature. , You will be asked to share the sheet.This allows them to select Reply in Smartsheet to access their comments. Use the comment function of the workspace

If you have sheets saved in your workspace, you can create comments for all the sheets in your workspace.To create a comment for your workspace, open the workspace screen and click the Comments icon in the upper right.

The workspace comment opens in a separate window (the workspace does not have a Conversation panel).Only comments about the workspace are displayed here.

To see the comments for a particular sheet in your workspace, you need to open that sheet.

Privileges and sharing levels required to interact with comments

You can view and print comments as long as you have access to the sheet.However, additional permission levels are required to perform other operations.

  • Create and reply to comments Sheet owners, admins, and editors have access
  • Edit or delete a comment.You can delete the comments you create, but only the seat owner and admin can delete all comments and comment threads.

Newly established "commenter"

In the newly established "Commenter", in addition to the authority of the viewer, "Add new attachments / links and comments to a sheet or reportIs possible.

Comment detailed information to display more information on the sheet

The standard Smartsheet project management template has a "Comments" section.In addition to this, a "Remarks" or "Memo" column may be provided to display information related to that line.
This method may be used when the amount of information displayed on the sheet is small, but when displaying various information on one sheet, the amount of information displayed can be increased by using conversations (comments).
