3. Rows and hierarchies

In a row in Smartsheet階層Build and easily organize, track, and move your data.also,Attachment/ With links and teamscommunicationManagement,File proofreading,Creating a custom document, reminderYou can also set.See the information in this learning topic for more information on what you can do with these lines.

Benefits of row hierarchization by indentation

Arrange information logically by layering rows

Structure lines by indentation,Organize information vertically and logicallyWhat you can do is one of the strengths of Smartsheet.
Often in project managementWBS (Work Breakdown Structure)ButWork disassembly configuration diagramLogically decompose and structure the task.
With Smartsheet, you can achieve the same thing as WBS by layering and structuring rows by indentation.

Utilization of hierarchical functions

Furthermore, assuming layeringfunctionBecause there is, it is possible to automate the aggregation of children's rows. For example, to the parent line = SUM (CHILDREN ())If you do, the values in the child's rows will be aggregated. (Click the link at the function and select Hierarchy at Show All to see the hierarchical functions.)

Parent rollup function (built-in function)

In addition, the Gantt chart reflects the start, end, duration, and% completion of the child's task in the parent row. This feature is known in SmartsheetParent rollup functionEur-lex.europa.eu eur-lex.europa.eu

Parent indexing with folding function

Under"Expanding and collapsing indented linesAs explained in detail in the explanation, you can use the parent row like an index by taking advantage of the folding function of a sheet consisting of hundreds of rows.

You can jump to the article from the button below for document management and file management using the function that can logically organize information vertically by indenting Smartsheet.

Hierarchy: Row Indent / Unindent

You can create a hierarchy on a sheet by indenting rows. When you indent rows to create a hierarchy, the parent-child relationship between the lines (the line above isparent, The bottom line isChild) will be created.

Note: Hierarchies are created from child rows.It is not created by setting a parent line.

Hierarchy buttons

Hierarchies create relationships between lines, but they do not control the formatting of lines.

Line indent

Click the cell in the first row to indent and click on the toolbarIndent Click the button. The line above that line becomes the parent line.

note: Indent If you can't press the button, you may be trying to indent a blank line.To create a hierarchyParent and child linesData must be entered in both. Before setting the indent, make sure neither line is blank.

Tip: You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl +] or Command +] on Mac to indent lines.

The indentation only appears in the primary column of the sheet, but the relationships between rows apply to the entire row. (For more information on the primary column, please use this form.please look at. )

Delete hierarchy

To remove the parent-child relationship of a row, click the cell of any child row and on the toolbar [Unindent] Click the button.

Tip: You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + [, or Command + [on Mac to unindent lines.

Expanding and collapsing indented lines

Expanding or collapsing rows to save a sheet changes the sheet structure of all collaborators who share the sheet. This means that all collaborators who use the sheet will see the row that they collapsed / unfolded.

To show / hide the rows that are indented under the parent row, in the primary column of the parent row [Unfold / Fold] / Click.

To expand or collapse all subitems on the sheet, right-click on the header of the primary column and[Expand All] or sending us a message on [Fold all]  Choose.

If you use the row folding function, you can display a sheet consisting of a large number of rows compactly at the stage of folding, and display only the required rows.
If you use this folding function well, you can efficiently get to the information you need from hundreds of rows of sheets.
For example, "Smartsheet experience corner, project management experience corner"Example of M & A due diligence"Is composed of XNUMX lines of tasks, but you can easily refer to the tasks of any task group from XNUMX task groups by using the folding function.

Hierarchy best practices

Keep the following in mind when using hierarchies:

  • There is no limit to the level of hierarchy you can indent and create.Sheets allow you to create multi-level hierarchies by continuing to indent rows to the desired depth.
  • You can click and drag a row that contains an indented sub-item (that is, a child row) to move that row with the sub-item included.
  • You cannot delete just the parent row, so you must also delete the indented child rows. (To delete only the parent row without deleting the child rows, first delete the parent-child relationship)
  • If the dependency is enabled on the project sheet, the parent row will have the Start Date, End Date, Period, and% Complete values that you entered in the child rows that are indented under it. The rollup summary of is reflected. For details, see "Help Center"Parent rollup function."
  • When copying including the child line, expand the child line, select the parent line and the child line together, copy and paste.
  • Copying only the parent line does not copy the child lines.
